Council sets September 28 hearings on support for two charter amendments

Bellingham City Council plans two public hearings at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, September 28, on resolutions supporting proposed charter amendments on the November ballot, according to the city’s newsletter.

Proposition 2026-06 would remove the requirement that the mayor be the highest-paid city official or employee and assign the mayor’s salary to an independent salary commission.

Proposition 2026-07 would let the mayor designate another person to sign contracts and permit electronic signatures. The hearings concern resolutions supporting these proposals; they do not themselves approve the charter amendments.

The city recommends signing up to testify but says registration is not required. Its testimony signup form opens on the meeting day.
